"I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I just lived the length of it. I want to live the width of it as well."
--Poet and naturalist Diane Ackerman
I came across this quote and it stopped me for a moment. We get so caught up in consuming things or promotions or status and really none of those things are what make our lives feel delicious and full and lived-to-the-width.
Instead, it makes me think…did I say yes to that trip, even though I had tons of things going on? Did I try that new activity even if I thought I’d suck at it and maybe even embarrass myself? Did I say hello to someone new even though it felt awkward? Did I stop to listen to that birdsong that only happens early in the morning even though I had a full calendar and to-do list waiting for me?
May this quote, this post, be your reminder today that it isn’t just the length of our life but how full and wide we live it any given day. Let today be a full, wide day, my friend.
