4-year anniversary
Four years ago, right around this time, I got serious about my blog. I had only posted sporadically (maybe a dozen or so posts?) since I built my website in 2016.
But in 2021, I made a commitment to myself to write and post once a week.
(What??! I hadn’t even posted once a month up to that point!)
I’ve thought a lot about that commitment over the past four years. What led me to make it, what led me to KEEP it, why the heck I’m still doing it...and the one thing that seems clear (including for other commitments in my life) is this: sometimes it’s just not the time…until it is.
Maybe I just needed those 5-ish years of thinking about blogging (and occasionally dabbling) to actually get myself going. Not an impressive track record, but that’s not really the point. Sometimes things don’t take right away…but they also don’t really die.
We don’t always have to slam a door shut on something that isn’t taking…it might just need time to sit and simmer, away from our attention and just outside our zone of effort, until it’s ready to take its place on our radar.
What’s that thing that isn’t fully alive for you yet but that you’re not ready to give up on? What would happen if, instead of agonizing over it, you simply put it on simmer?
