Year-end hibernation

It’s starting to feel like we’re finally catching up to what nature has been telling us for ages:  winter is a time to close down shop and rest.  This is the time of year when the days in the northern hemisphere are short – meaning there is a lot of darkness and cold.  The elements are telling us to head inside and hunker down.

As the year comes to a close, this is the time I purposely slow things down.  My morning runs look more like morning walks, meditation breaths elongate, phone calls are made on the couch under a blanket, and candles make their way to my desk and coffee table.

I see some signs that businesses are following suit – more and more are closing down the last week of the year and setting boundaries with clients that help protect employees’ time off around holidays.  Retail isn’t quite there yet, but I’m holding out hope.

As the clock runs down on 2022, I invite you all to consider what you can let go of, slow the pace of, or to stop all together.  While the new year is simply a demarcation point, it offers us a chance to put one year to rest before we gear up for the next.

With that, I am closing my blog for the year, while I spend the remaining days of this year with family and friends.  I will return in January with new topics and new words. I wish you all a slow, easy finish to 2022, and a beautiful beginning of 2023!
