Closing down the year: Part 1

*This is a two-part post*

As the days become shorter, the temperature cools, and the last of the leaves have fallen, I start to reflect on the year I had.  Of course anyone can do this any time, but the end of the year feels like an especially appropriate time.

There are many ways one can go about this reflection - you might simply journal and see what stands out in your mind that you remember; you might comb through your pictures and videos from the year to spark your memory; and of course there are any number of free tools and suggestions online at your fingertips.

My favorite way to reflect is to go back to my calendar for the year, find the things that leap off the page because I loved them so much, and notice the things that left me with a little pit in my stomach.

The things that ultimately stand out to me are the people I spent time with (and how), new adventures I had, chances I took, and efforts I made toward things that are important to me.  The calendar view helps me remember the infrequent or new things that popped up that are outside the obvious entries of delight.

Time is our most precious, unrenewable resource, so seeing how I spent my year - and how those experiences feel upon reflection - are what create clarity for what I want going forward…

Stay tuned for Part 2 next week on looking ahead!
