We talk about time in a myriad of ways…we spend time, lose time, waste time, make time, mark time, hold time, watch time, run out of time…
And yet time is not actually a thing. It is a construct, one so strong we feel at the influence of it or occasionally in control of it, yet it exists and moves along with or without us. Time can feel like the enemy or we can have the gift of time.
But time has become our scapegoat.
I don’t have time for that really means I don’t want to do that.
You’re wasting your time is a means of expressing disapproval or doubt.
So the next time you talk about time – to blame it, to count it, to save it – consider what you might actually be saying…
